The Young And The Restless (Y&R) scoop reveals veteran soap actress Susan Walters (Diane Jenkins) has won her first Daytime Emmy Award.
But Walters’ trophy was the only win for the CBS sudser, which was nominated for 19 Emmys. It was ABC’s General Hospital (GH) who took home the most gold, winning seven awards out of a total of 16 nominations.
Peacock’s Days Of Our Lives (DOOL) took home two Emmys, out of a total of 13 nominations. And CBS’ The Bold And The Beautiful (B&B) took home one award, out of a total of two nominations.
Lisa Yamada, who plays Luna Nozawa on B&B, won her first Emmy in the new category of Outstanding Emerging Talent. “Acting has been my dream and my dreams are coming true right now,” an emotional Yamada said in her acceptance speech. “Playing Luna has been the honor of my life.”
Daytime Emmy Awards – Nancy Lee Grahn & Paul Telfer’s Big Wins
One of the biggest surprises of the night, although well deserved, was Paul Telfer’s win for Outstanding Lead Actor, his first Emmy win. Telfer has portrayed Xander Kiriakis on DOOL for 10 years. DOOL also won Outstanding Casting.

Nancy Lee Grahn, who plays Alexis Davis on GH, took home her third Emmy. In her acceptance speech, Grahn said since she was given a literal soap box, she was going to use it. “Now is the time to stand up, speak up for human decency, for democracy.”
GH’s Jonathan Jackson (Lucky Spencer) won for Outstanding Supporting Actor, his sixth Emmy. And Alley Mills (Heather Webber) nabbed the Outstanding Guest Performer award for the second year in a row. General Hospital also won Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing Team, Outstanding Directing Team and Outstanding Costume Design And Styling.
Young And The Restless Scoop – Viewers Calling For A Change In Writing
Finally, Walters was all smiles, as she accepted her Emmy. “Michael Mealor and Peter Bergman, I would not be up here without you,” she told her onscreen son and husband in her acceptance speech. “You are the most generous scene partners I’ve ever worked with, so thank you.”
Walters also talked about what an honor it was to receive an award in what she described as the toughest medium. The actress also thanked Linden Ashby, her husband of 40 years, who was nominated last night for Guest Performer for his portrayal of Cameron Kirsten on Y&R.
Perhaps the most telling part of the Emmy’s last night was the lack of gold for Y&R. During the past couple of years, the sudser has descended from must-see TV to fast forward material, with many fans blaming head writer Josh Griffith for its lack of any substance.
Viewers have been calling for a change in writing for some time. And last night’s result seems to have proved them right. But only time will tell if this Emmy embarrassment will be enough to overhaul this beloved soap.
