Young And The Restless: Phyllis is relieved by the verdict

The Young And The Restless (Y&R) scoop for Wednesday, August 9 reveals Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) will not serve any jail time.

Also coming up, Summer Newman (Allison Lanier) will issue an invitation to Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd). Plus, Lucy Romalotti (Lily Brooks O’Briant) will pay Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei) a visit.

Y&R spoilers tease Daniel will walk into his suite, only to find Lucy waiting for him. They’ll head to the park and run into Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes). They’ll chat about the people they love and how frustrated they can make them feel. “I feel like we need to give them the space and the trust to make all of those changes that they need to,” Mariah will say.

Y&R Daily Scoop – Summer Decides To Set Herself Free

At the GCAC, Summer will have another chance meeting with her favorite Genoa City detective. She’ll tell Chance everything’s changed, her whole attitude has shifted. “I’m letting go of my mom,” she’ll say. “She’s in charge of her own fate.” Then he’ll ask about Kyle. “There’s no going back so I’ve gotta move forward,” she’ll respond.

Y&R Scoop: Summer rides a rollercoaster

Summer will also say she feels like she’s been on a roller coaster. She has the old Summer back and wants to go on a roller coaster for real. “Come with me,” she’ll ask Chance. But he’ll say he has work to do and ask for a rain check. So, Summer will go by herself.

In the judge’s chambers, Judge Linda Franklin (Ros Gentle) will say the DA has submitted a sentencing recommendation, but she doesn’t have to accept it. She’ll ask Phyllis what she’d like her to know before she makes her decision. So, Phyllis will say she was terrified of Jeremy Stark (James Hyde). She also didn’t understand why everyone gave Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) a free pass but didn’t do the same for her.

“Everything was set up, all the clues to indicate that Diane Jenkins was guilty,” Phyllis will admit. “But at this point I was just trying to protect my family.” Then when her kids had a memorial for her, she realized they were in so much pain. Which was when things changed for her. “I wanted out, but Jeremy wasn’t going to let me out,” she’ll continue. “So he started overtly threatening my children.” But when she refused to go along with him, he attacked her. “I defended myself,” Phyllis will tell the judge. “I killed him before he killed me.”

Young And The Restless Scoop – Heather Impressed By Phyllis

Phyllis will also say she takes full responsibility for taking a man’s life, but she’ll beg the judge for mercy. However, Christine Blair (Lauralee Bell) will point out Phyllis deceived an entire community and framed an innocent woman and her sentence should be in keeping with the severity of her crimes. But Heather Stevens (Vail Bloom) will say the DA’s history with the defendant is well known.

Y&R Scoop: Heather tells Phyllis she's impressed

The judge will ask what Phyllis thinks her sentence should be. “I feel like I’ve already paid a price for what I’ve done.” She’ll also say she wants the opportunity to make it right, which she couldn’t do from a jail cell. “I’m begging you, please give me the opportunity to change, please.” While they wait for the judge’s decision, Heather will tell Phyllis she wishes she hadn’t changed her plea without consulting her. “However, I’m impressed. I think you did the right thing.”

Finally, Phyllis, Heather and Christine will return to the judge’s chambers. The judge will tell Phyllis she went to great lengths to commit fraud. “You framed an innocent woman, made your children accomplices to your crimes and ultimately killed a man.” But she’s also taken into account that Stark was a dangerous criminal. “I’m going to reject your recommendation,” Judge Franklin will tell Christine. “Ms. Summers, I’m going to sentence you to six months community service and a year’s probation.” Then Phyllis will let out a huge sigh of relief when the judge tells her she’s free to go.
