The Bold And The Beautiful (B&B) has had some great and some not so great plotlines this year. The following is a list of B&B’s worst storylines of 2023.
5. Taylor And Brooke’s Pact Comes To An End
Sure, Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Taylor Hayes (Krista Allen) becoming gal pals was odd, and a little bit hokey, but we liked it. The women had fought over Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) for decades. So, rejecting him and choosing themselves was a refreshing change of pace.
Ridge was so surprised by their decision that he left town to do some soul searching. But the moment he returned to LA, the besties reverted back to form and turned on each other. It was not only disappointing but also seemed par for the course on a soap that always puts love triangles front and center.
4. Li’s Feud With Poppy
Luna Nozawa (Lisa Yamada) and Poppy Nozawa’s (Romy Park) arrival in LA not only introduced much needed new characters, it also breathed new life into the show. So, it was interesting indeed when Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda) spotted her niece at Forrester Creations and demanded she quit and leave town immediately. But why?
Viewers speculated that perhaps Poppy had an affair with Li’s husband Jack Finnegan (Ted King) and Luna was his daughter. However, Li’s reason for having a hate-on for her sister was much less exciting than that. It turned out Li got Poppy a job in the gift shop at the hospital where she worked. Then Poppy slept with the chief of surgery, resulting in embarrassment and less shifts for Li. Which left viewers shaking their heads at yet another boring conclusion to what could have been a fresh, exciting plot.
3. Brooke And Ridge’s Italian Reunion
Many B&B fans love Brooke and Ridge as a couple, but their reunion in Italy was pretty cringe worthy. Ridge looking through a keyhole, and seeing Brooke through it, suddenly made him realize she was his destiny. It was just way too contrived and not particularly romantic. Although at least there was one highlight to this reunion storyline – a beautiful performance by Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.

2. Finn Defends Sheila
Finn’s (Tanner Novlan) sudden change of heart towards Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) came out of nowhere. This is a guy who jumped in front of his wife when his deranged mother pulled a gun on her. And he nearly died saving Steffy Forrester’s (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) life.
But a year later, Finn was hugging Sheila at the prison and in a courtroom hallway, for no real reason. Then he vigorously defended his mother to Steffy after she saved Kelly Spencer (Sophia Paras McKinlay) from drowning. It was a complete 180 for the character, who has been loyal to Steffy from the get-go. Make it make sense!
1. Eric’s Long, Drawn-Out Demise
Why the B&B decided to end the year subjecting viewers to one of the most boring and dismal storylines in a long time remains a mystery. For months now, viewers have had to suffer through characters shedding tears over Eric Forrester’s (John McCook) long, drawn-out demise. Even worse, they all had to pretend they didn’t know he was dying.
This tedious storyline literally sucked the life out of other, more compelling plots. Steffy had just stood up to Sheila and even punched her. Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) found out Hope Logan (Annika Noelle) and Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) were sleeping together. And Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) recognized Poppy when he spotted her with Luna at Il Giardino.
Regardless, when Eric collapsed at his last hurrah, it felt as though we were finally at the end of this torturous storyline. But what followed was even worse. Eric lying unconscious in a hospital bed, while everyone wept at his bedside, was just downright depressing, especially at Christmas. And now that’s it’s looking like Eric will survive, there better be a good payoff, because viewers have had to suffer through it long enough.
