Bold And The Beautiful’s (B&B) John McCook, who plays Eric Forrester, recently reflected on his first daytime soap gig, playing Lance Prentiss on The Young And The Restless (Y&R).
“Lance Prentiss had his own private jet, lots of money and always two women he loved,” McCook said, posting a picture of Lance on Instagram. “Typical soap hero, right?”
McCook played Lance, an eligible bachelor and owner of Prentiss Industries, beginning on November 14, 1976. He quickly became intrigued, and fell in love with, pianist Leslie Brooks (Victoria Mallory). But although Leslie cared for Lance, she wouldn’t leave her husband Brad Elliott (Tom Hallick).

Leslie set up Lance with her sister Lorie Brooks (Jamie Lyn Bauer) and the pair fell in love. Lance and Lorie married in 1977 but divorced three years later. Lorie had found out he’d cheated on her with her sister. McCook left the Y&R in 1980 and the role was recast with Dennis Cole in 1981.
McCook’s B&B and Y&R co-stars joined in on his Instagram conversation and were quick to comment on the photo.
“Could I play one of the women… but the one who gets him in the end?” his B&B co-star Jennifer Gareis, who plays Eric’s ex-wife Donna Logan, said.

Doug Davidson, who plays Genoa City Police Chief Paul Williams, also chimed in. “AND HE CAN SING!!!!” Davidson said. “At a boy!!!” Darin Brooks, who portrays Wyatt Spencer, on B&B commented. And Jacob Young, who played Eric’s son Rick Forrester on B&B, commented that he thought Lance was handsome.
In 1986, B&B and Y&R creator William J. Bell wanted to work with the veteran actor again and he reached out, offering McCook the role of Eric. He first appeared as the Forrester matriarch in 1987, on the debut episode of the soap.
